  • downs44: Got an 06 that just went through SMOD. Got everything replaced. Now my low oil pressure light is flickering on after the engine warms up and the truck is at idle. Doing some digging on the forums it looks like a common problem is the rear timing cover gallery gasket leaking and causes the symptoms. Looks like a 15 hour or so repair for a $50 part. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and any words of advise. To save some dialogue, the oil pressure sensor is about a year old and I changed the oil and filter after i noticed the light and that did not fix the issue.

You think Hells Revenge is doable in an X with 2inch lift, sliders and 285's? Because that's where my truck will be at Moab.

Marcin did it with 285s, sliders, and I think his lift was only 2" at the time..

I'll be right there with you Thursday! Us stick shifts gotta stick together!

That's probably the biggest concern of mine in doing Hells Gate, the manual. We will see, like you said it may come down to game day decision.

Ahhhhhh Hells Gate....

Yeah the entrance can be a bit hairy at times too especially the truggies that drop in and are gearred reallly low with no weight in the back end.  Ive seen front end wheelies there.

The exit can go either direction.  The right line is really narrow and without a front locker it is even narrower.  If the front tire drops off the wall you are screwed.  I always tell folks the base isnt littlered with plastic, glass, metal & oil because it was easy.

Now watch those videos and tell me how many want to do Hells Gate or even attempt it.  I would highly recommend NOT doing it unless you are ok with the consequences.

It's interesting that the videos of people flipping usually involve a highly lifted vehicle with a super wide stance. Is there a benefit to having a more stock vehicle? It would seem that a narrower wheelbase and less lift would be beneficial on something like this.

IMHO I would avoid that obstacle unless you are a really experienced wheeler.

Ahh c'mon. Quit scaring people, it looks way worse than it is. Yes the consequences of failure are severe but that's if no one had a cable on ya to begin with just for safety. I'd let anyone drive my X up that without a second thought.

IMHO, there were spots on Hells Revenge that gave me a bigger pucker factor than the famous Gate. If ya wanna try it but are afraid, have a cable with a little slack hooked up right from the beginning.

I like the cable idea... hehe, but I probably will bypass this year. It will give me something to shoot for next year!

The ones that flipped ... Jeep was a local gal in CO, she took her eyes off the spotter for one second and by the time she looked back it was nothing but blue sky and then panic set in.

The canadian buggy, he went to far to the right (if you are driving) and then turned into the hill to pull back out.  That works on flat ground but when its a 45 degree angle it made him walk out of the crack and roll.

The X was me years ago and my back tire pealed off the wall and without a front locker (then) I couldn't pull myself back on track.  Back rear quarter bashed the wall... didn't bother me though.

I post this for a few reasons...
* Most people have to drive their rigs back
* Winch line wont reach until you are half way up
* Winches are too slow to drive attached and just get pulled under
* If the driver Fudges up, doesnt concentrate, panics there is a good chance you are not driving it home
* If you peal off the wall you are not going to get going again so you are now parked on your brakes... guess what happens when your parked on your brakes while the winch is pulled down.... the fluid heats up and you WILL creep backwards hopefully you got really good fluid
* Oh and I gaurantee for most folks sitting there seeing nothing but blue sky while the truck makes creaking sounds your foot will start to shake on the brake pedal... trust me this is not good.
* hooking up a winch line can be the worst if the foot is shaking or the truck is shifting due to hot brake fluid, I have had one truck pop back on the line a second after hooking it up then having that line pop right net to my ear like a guitar string
* goneMOAB is the ONLY event that has not rolled a truck in there
* on average a rig rolls in there every 2-3 weeks from April on
* if someone rolls it in there then I will have to deal with the BLM, police and probably our event insurance

So no I dont take this obstacle lightly, done right and well its easy as hell <rimshot>.   Unlike most obstacles where oh darn you will dent your rig if you screw up, lose a mirror or such this becomes a hazard for driver and recovery crew if done improperly.
