  • PitSnipe (Kyle): Wow, I have not heard of this issue. 15 hour job for a $50 part is nuts. Hopefully someone that knows of this issue will speak up.

  • downs44: Got an 06 that just went through SMOD. Got everything replaced. Now my low oil pressure light is flickering on after the engine warms up and the truck is at idle. Doing some digging on the forums it looks like a common problem is the rear timing cover gallery gasket leaking and causes the symptoms. Looks like a 15 hour or so repair for a $50 part. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and any words of advise. To save some dialogue, the oil pressure sensor is about a year old and I changed the oil and filter after i noticed the light and that did not fix the issue.

Chimney Rock all the way through pre-run 1-8-12
« on: January 09, 2012, 04:39:36 PM »
Ok, so scoped out Chimney Rock trail all the way through back to the main Redington Rd by Piety Hill. Pretty fun trail! Definitely 4wd only once a bit east of Chimney Rock itself. A stock height X will be able to make it with some careful driving and DO NOT have stock steprails mounted unless you plan on bashing them up... Main obstacles are a long bumpy and rutted descent into Bullock Canyon. I bashed my stock engine skid but it was my fault. The trail then follows the canyon bottom a ways and zigzags across it a number of times. a couple good hill climbs on the trail and some very narrow and rocky sections while following the canyon wash. I invited out a newer Cherokee from work with 28" rugged trails, nerf bars, and no locker and he made it through (nerf bars not so much) so a stock height 4x4 Xterra will be fine with careful line picking.

Pics!
Showing Luke's beast around the play ground area at Chimney Rock.

This guy made it and it was only his 3rd time wheeling ever, so I know a stock 4wd X can...

Somewhere on this descent is where I hit my oil pan. I was just coming down too fast. The cherokee also put a ding in his gas tank on this hill...

Really rutted out near the bottom of the descent into Bullock Canyon. Look on the rut and you can see where my pass side tire fell in and I started sliding. Rear driver came up in the air and all I could do was say "FUUUUU__K!!" Luckily I came to a stop before my fender became one with the burm on the left of the picture.

Finally in the canyon bottom!

Biggest hill climb of the day.

More fun!

A lot of the canyon bottom was like this. Narrow and rocky. These areas nerf bars might not survive...

Bull Springs if you need to top of your water bottles with some fresh, ice cold ground water! mmm!

Wishin' I was fishin'...
