Hi All:

I took the trip into Sheep Bridge along FSR 269 this last weekend and I noticed a sign at the intersection of FSR 269 and FSR 16 that indicated one might be able to get to the Verde near Childs after a trek of 28 miles.  Being the curious sort, I bought all the USGS quads and consulted the Tonto National Forest map and it appears the FSR 16 will go and I'm wondering if anyone on this forum has any experience on this road and if so, would a slightly lifted 2008 Xterra 4WD (1.5 F, 2.5 R) be able to handle the terrain?  Any beta is much appreciated.

I have never driven it but it requires driving through the river.  I saw a truck do it once while I was staying at the spot next to childs power plant one year.  From the 16 you can go left onto 57, and right onto Dugas road across the bridge.  I have never taken that rout either but have spoken to a lot of people who have, they consider it a nice scenic drive.  All those roads are maintained Forest roads and should be no issue with an X.  https://maps.google.com/maps?q=fr16&hl=en&ll=34.342231,-111.707439&spn=0.060168,0.111494&sll=34.347396,-111.748145&sspn=0.007521,0.013937&t=m&z=14
