  • PitSnipe (Kyle): Wow, I have not heard of this issue. 15 hour job for a $50 part is nuts. Hopefully someone that knows of this issue will speak up.

  • downs44: Got an 06 that just went through SMOD. Got everything replaced. Now my low oil pressure light is flickering on after the engine warms up and the truck is at idle. Doing some digging on the forums it looks like a common problem is the rear timing cover gallery gasket leaking and causes the symptoms. Looks like a 15 hour or so repair for a $50 part. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and any words of advise. To save some dialogue, the oil pressure sensor is about a year old and I changed the oil and filter after i noticed the light and that did not fix the issue.

New Guy In Town
« on: August 16, 2010, 12:09:02 PM »
Hey guys, my name's Shinji Carmichael and I just recently moved out here to Tucson from the NJ/NY area.  I just finished up school up at the Rochester Institute of Technology with a Mechanical Engineering Technology degree(if you guys know anyone hiring or looking for a hard working intern let me know :) ) and was a member of NEXTERRA up there and have surfed XOC from time to time.  I drive a black 2002 Xterra 4wd with a pml with a full custom dual exhaust, 32" Trxus MT's for now(getting new Mickey Thompson MTZ's put on tomorrow).  Should be pretty easy to spot me since i still have Jersey plates on.  Looking forward to meeting up with you guys for some trail rides in the near future.

Welcome! I'm always happy to have another 1st Gen Xterra that wheels in AZ. If you're ever up here in the Phoenix area, LMK and we'll hit some trails. Check out the 'AZ Trails' section.

Welcome Shinji!  I graduated from RIT in '94 (BS, Finance).  Engineering in the valley?  You shouldn't have a problem finding a job - most likely for a defense contractor (there are quite a few in the valley).

thanks for the warm welcome guys :)

yea I've been tossing out resumes left and right but almost every job wants 5+ years of experience which being fresh out of college I've only managed to get about a year's worth of experience so I've been trying the "I'll work for you for free as an intern" route too.  Nothing as of yet but Raytheon just got a big contract so hopefully I can get something lined up there but yea it's only been a month or two since I've really been pushing for jobs, may just start doing some walk-ins (I hate online job applications).

What ever happened to Scrabo he worked for General Dynamics and used to post on here, nice guy.  Shame he's still not around - he might have been able to put ya in touch with someone.

So I think I'm going to be looking into the Air Force, especially since we have a base here in Tucson and with a degree you enter as an officer so I'll be talking to a recruiter today... wish me luck :)

There are a lot of companies that do engineering work in Arizona:  Ratheon, Boeing, Honeywell, Motorola, Intel just to name a few.  If you can afford to wait a few more weeks, one of these companies may be able to help you.  Also, the career placement office (or whatever it is called) at RIT should also be able to provide job leads, as well.

If, however, you need to work right away, the USAF is not a bad place to be.  I have yet to hear from an Air Force vet who said he/she hated it.  Not true with some of the other branches.
