285 Toyo MT Tires
« on: January 05, 2013, 03:51:58 PM »
Since I added add a leaf and a spacer for my bumper. I got alittle more lift to play with.
Question?????
has anyone put these on your trucks and any concerns for going from a 275 E Load(mistake) to 285 D Muddddds?
Its so confusing with all of the choices. ???
Features I hopeing for :
Realist gas mileage
Good Handling
improved height/ lighter tire

Or 285D AT\

I am weighing the options! For the Records the Forum is correct 275E ride like a M4 sherman Tank!

I'm running a 295 Nito terra grappler, which is about as aggressive of an AT tire as you can get.  I have the PRG advanced lift plus shackles in the rear and they just barely fit.  That said I get about 14mpg average.  I do live 10 min from work so on the highway I probably do a little better.  That said, for said sizes, expect about 16 mpg on the MTs and 18 on the ATs, I think that is about right.  Also, your higher load rating tire can run at higher PSI with may help your mpg, but you will have to watch the tire wear and make sure it isnt uneven.  But don't expect more than 1 or 2 mpgs out of a psi change from 30 to 50.  Hope this helps.

I run 285 ATs for street driving, the way my truck sits I get about 16 mpg, but its tuned and a lot of other stuff done to it.  I do have a set of MT 285s but when those go on its time for a trail and who cares about the MPG then.

I am on my second set of toyo mt's on my dodge 1500, they are heavier, I lost about 1 mpg total, pros, excelent off road tire, deep siping for wet weather, snow ice, so not as good as a dedicated snow tire but better than most open lug MT tires.  Like any MT, you need to rotate frequently for even wear, noise is minimal for the first 10 - 15k, than increases as they wear down.  I got just about 57k on the first set and the second set is at 26k and going strong.  I have owned goodyear MTR s as well and would pay the higher price for the TOYO's every time.  Oops, other draw back, TOYO = $$$$$$ Good luck with your decison.
EDIT:  I could not find any D load TOYO's in 285 only E load, according to toyo site, MT is about 16lbs heavier per tire than the AT, again according to their site.
