3/16/2013 Meeting (Trail Rating 0)
« on: January 12, 2013, 04:28:03 PM »
Here is the official March 2013 meeting thread.

Traditionally we do this meeting in conjunction with a Chilli Cook-Off.  I think we should continue this tradition.

The event will be held at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, we have reserved a Ramada next to the water.  The Ramada is number 4, and there will be large posted AZXC signs so it will be easy to find.

The Ramada has seating for 15 or so, and a grill, so I would recommend bringing some fold out seats in case we fill up.

AZXC will provide hot dogs and brats.

I've got a new chili recipe I've been wanting to try! ;D

I don't know which parks in the Phoenix areas are good ones so I'll just keep an eye on this thread ;D

Kiwanas park in Tempe could work. There are a lot of other facilities in the park: batting cages, tennis, fishing???, hiking.

Cesar Chavez park in Phoenix also has a lot to offer. There is plenty of open space to throw around a ball or set up a volleyball net. There is also a lake and a skate park for the kiddies.  Aguila 9 is a executive golf course that is usually wide open to play in the AM.

Here is the email I got from Kiwanis park in regards to a private picnic area.  I would almost prefer the area next to the lake, but i dont know how to reserve that.  I will make a trip to the park tomorrow to check it out.

Hi Avi,

Thank you for your interest in reserving the Kiwanis Recreation Center! This e-mail  outlines the many exciting choices we have to offer your Corporate, Family, Church, Sports or School Group. Our center features an Indoor Heated Wave Pool, Basketball/Volleyball Gymnasium with a beautiful real wood floor, Corporate Ramada/Sand Volleyball/Greenbelt area, along with 15 lighted Tennis Courts and a full service Batting Range. For photos and more information, visit us online at www.tempe.gov/kiwanis.

Your current request is for reservation of a covered Ramada on the date of March 16th and there is a ramada area currently available.

Groups of up to 60 participants who would like a private fenced in, rock area (no grass), we offer the “Oasis Ramada” which is located next to our building. This picnic spot reserves for $70.50 for 3 hours and $23.50 for each additional hour. The area does have a portable charcoal grill.

See April's post for Sedona, sorry about the distance, but if it is up to me almost every meeting from May-Sept will be in the high country.  So you have that to look forward to.

Agreed it will be time to get out of the valley of the sun during that time.

So, I looked into Kiwanis lake further and we can rent the Ramadas near the water for that date.  They are 25 to Tempe residents and 50 to non and we need 2, so any residents who want to step up and save the club a couple bucks?  The parks and rec office is located at the public library at rural and southern and these fill up fast so I would like to get it done soon.
Thanks,
Avi
