  • Conundrum: Wow, with all the rain I've been in as well as flooding in the X on Fat Tire, I have a new issue. Set light blinking rapidly and goes away after restarting the engine. I did a little research and I guess the cruise actuator can get nasty and seems plausible since I went through a puddle on purpose on the right hand side and that made the set light for cruise start flashing again. I'll check it out after the rain stops. lol Have fun and be safe out there everyone.

AMMO-Where and how much
« on: January 13, 2013, 08:40:03 PM »
With the current climate like it is I thought we might like to have a thread on ammo and potential local and internet deals and resources.

The Ace Hardware on Indian School and 32nd Street has crates of 7.62 x 54 selling for $200 for 800 rounds.

They get various bulk rounds in from time to time so I will keep an eye of what they have when I go in there for hardware.

Place is empty now but they get shipments of different ammo every week.

5.56 is supposed to come in in the next two weeks.

Am I the only one wondering why they label 5.56 and .223 separately?

Yes!  It actually is two different kinds of rounds!

Yes but no.  If you have an AR 15 that only has a 223 barrel and you stick 556 in it, it will melt!

IIRC, 5.56 chambers can shoot both, but .223 can't shoot 5.56. Am I close to being accurate? Haha

Yes and correct .223 barrel cannot fire 5.56 round.

5.56 tends to be a touch higher pressure, as well as the actual case being a hair larger.

5.56 is a NATO round while .223 is not

It can fire it and it will shoot but if you continue it will melt the barrel

You'd have to shoot A LOT of 556 to warp the barrel... A LOT, without allowing the barrel to cool.  The same thing can happen of you send a lot of 223 down range in your 223 chambered firearm in rapid succession with out a cool down period.

The issue with running 556 in a 223 chambered firearm is that the 556 runs at higher pressure. The added stress could lead to failures such as cracking you gas block and gas tube, failure to eject, failure to extract, etc.

PM me if you have any other questions.
