GoneMoab BBQ
« on: January 21, 2013, 09:44:21 PM »
The issue has been brought up and there are a lot of questions.  Marcin has brought up liability as a major concern and my concern is volunteers.  So post if you would be willing to volunteer to help.  I don't mind putting the work in to get the logistics sorted, but I want help, so I reserve the right to remove this option if we don't get many volunteers.  If we do not provide the food then AZXC has already voted to support GoneMoab and we will support the event in some other way.  I do think this would be a great way to get AZXC's name in front of everyone at the event, but also understand the work and risks involved.  Because of a time constraint to make a decision this poll is only open for 2 days.
Thanks,
Avi

I voted against the BBQ.  IMHO, giving money is the best option.  The organizers can decide how they want to spend it.

Cooking for 100-150 people is a big committment, and one that I'm not willing to do.  If we must sponsor the Friday night dinner, then I suggest ordering pizzas or maybe a crap load of big macs.

After reading this, yeah BBQ may be too much work, it looks like only 4 of AZXC members are currently going (Marcin, Filip,Ted and I) and I certainly dont want to cook or be responsible for food for 150 people.

Now what would be awesome is having like 4 or 5 Xterras with those hitch mounted grills all pulling up at GoneMOAB and cordoning off a kitchen area.

I've organized BBQs for company meetings before which involved cooking food for about 150 people. And I can tell you we ended up with 4 big gas grills under two shade canopies, 6 cooks (1 assigned to each grille and two to switch off and relieve someone when they tired out) 4 runners (kids of employees usually) who ran food from the grills to people who wanted it, and at least 2 linekeepers to keep people from getting too close to the grills/bugging the cooks/making special requests directly to the cooks and confusing them.

Granted we had to have everyone fed for a meeting that ran only about 2 hours vs an all day thing, so a lot of that was setup for efficiency sake. I think a lot of people have fun doing it, but it is quite the commitment.

Like Rev said, I alot of work and in Moab you'd have what 1 grill to cook on? Just appears to be more involved than the 4 of us could handle, we probably could ultimately if we really wanted to but when I get there Im want to crack a beer and relax after the 9-10 hour drive there not jump into cooking/bbq-ing for 150 people, not my idea of fun after a long drive.

I was planning on going, and there are a couple maybes out there.  Also, some of the SCCX guys were planning on pitching in.  But without a couple volunteers, I def couldn't whip this together.
