wow 339th Ave. I could probably pay twice as much in Tempe and save money in the end on gas.  Maybe if i get my motorcycle emissions done I could use it as an excuse for a bike trip.

Scottsdale Gun Club has a 4 hour course for 60 bucks, given almost every week. I will be doing this course in the near future.

I went there too.  John Hansen is a really good instructor and has some great insights on how to be legal, and when you can / when you can't shoot someone.

When mine comes due again next year, I'll definitely make the drive.  This is one of the cheaper classes around, and everything is done that day (classroom, fingerprints, and shooting qualification).  Very efficient process.

I know this is an old thread, but I've been given the green light to own a firearm. This is going to be a slow and steady process. I know there is a local guy in my area that sells and educates. I see he has a Groupon deal for two at $85. A 4 hour or 8 hour class, and doesn't require shooting. Not sure what the difference is with extra 4 hours.

What did you guys do? I'd like to get this on the whim we travel and I can carry in those states covered.

Im active duty and my wife is prior service. We just emailed the county via the website and they sent us the forms and finger print cards to fill out. For me they wanted a copy of my ID, LES, or Orders. For my wife they wanted her DDForm214. Mailed them in and got our CCW's in a couple of weeks.

Most of the people I know use BlackWolf Defense he's only $40+Application Fee. They say he does a quick and painless class focusing on the need to know stuff. Look at it this way you can run big horn mountain if your making the trip out here to the far west side. It looks like he does the class in the same area I shoot.

Another thing, I already have a fingerprint card that's due for renewal this coming year. I can't find anywhere that mentions it. Does the ccw card then act as a fingerprint card too?

For kid's school and girl scouts they ask for this type of I'd many times when you are a chaperone or on the school grounds as a volunteer.

AZ you don't really need a CCW or at least go to classes you just need to fill out a form. I do not agree with this I think everyone should do a course on firearms before they allowed to carry.

X2

I think everyone should attend some basic firearms training course, in the mil you usually get some good experience on how to maintain a weapon, sight it in, and fire it. If you want a CCW license in AZ it does require a class but anyone in AZ can conceal carry, the permit just offers a few more options to gun owners. I didn't get one for the longest time because I was raised with guns. I only got one because I have a common cartel member name and I always get put on a hold for a purchase. I have also heard from self defense survivors that having a CCW can help during a trial. You may survive an attack but surviving the trial and case is the 2nd battle.

I agree with training and the fine points of the law that could get one in trouble.

Example:  Federal says one can carry within  1000 ft. of a school. That is easy enough, but that includes Passing on a road way in front of the school.

So the moral of the story is,  a class is always good and practice with your side arm.
