Mingus Mountain Family Campground
First Come, First Served
Located in the pines at an elevation of about 7,500 feet
and atop Mingus Mountain, this campground offers the visitor
a scenic vista and relatively cool summertime temperatures.
On a clear day the scenic overlook, located near the camping
facilities, offers a spectacular view of the Verde Vally.
There is a $10 a night fee for each site. This campground
does not have any Recreational Vehicle hookups, dumpstations
or shower facilities.
The campsites provided are generally large enough to accommodate
most recreational vehicles; however, utility hookups, and
drinking water are not provided. A campground host is available
to provide information and to assist visitors in locating
suitable camping sites. The campground is open from May
1 through September 30 depending on weather. This campground
has been upgraded with new toilets, additional campsites,
and water supply.
Access:
From Prescott, take U.S. Highway 89 north to U.S. Hwy 89A.
Turn right onto Hwy 89A and travel this road for approximately
19 miles to the junction of Forest Road 104 at the summit.
FR 104 is on your right as you approach the summit. Turn
right onto FR 104 and travel for about 4 miles to the campground
entrance. This dirt road is suitable for all types of vehicles
when the road is dry.
From the Verde Ranger Station, take Highway 260 north for
approximately 20 miles to the junction with Hwy 89A. This
route will take you through the communities of Bridgeport
and Cottonwood. Turn left onto Hwy 89A and travel for about
14 miles through the historic mining town of Jerome to the
junction with FR 104 just before the paved highway descends
towards Prescott Valley. Turn left onto FR 104 and go about
4 miles to the campground.
